Nashville, TN – October 25th, 2014 – If you weren’t one of the 1000 people in attendance during the weekend of the 11th Annual Southern Entertainment Awards in Nashville, TN., you definitely should’ve been. The weekend long event which kicked off with an artist showcase on Friday, March 29th and ended with the awards show onSunday, March 31st was filled with music, conferences and invaluable networking for all participants—both on stage and off.
Although the focus of this event is to formally acknowledge independent DJs, recording artists, poets, website designers, magazines, e-zines, models, designers and venues working regionally in the rap industry, Janiro Hawkins II, Co-Founder states therein lies a deeper motivation. “We love music, but what we strive to do during this time is educate artists about the business side of music,” says Hawkins. “We work twice as hard as the person who works twice as hard so that we can do our part to better the quality of music that’s coming out.”
The Southern Entertainment Awards has previously received Nationally-generated pre-press from the celebrated online hip-hop magazine website, AllHipHop.com, The Source Magazine and via MTV. Many of the attendees, nominees and winners have grown in to household names that many know to date. This roster includes award winning talent such as BoB, Nicki Minaj, Shannon Sanders, Drumma Boy, Algebra Blessett, Dj Drama, Clinton Sparks and more. In addition to these past performers and/or attendees the Southern Entertainment Awards also continues to attract a variety of promoters and label executives from throughout the country including but not limited to New York, New Jersey, California, Ohio and Michigan were also in attendance, proving that this event is not just for southern-based artists but for all those in the independent industry.
The organizers of the Southern Entertainment Awards have recently made a decision to return back to Tunica, MS and when asked why, it was simply stated with confidence that “Tunica has welcomed us with open arms and for now, this is the place best suited for what we are striving to achieve,” says Hawkins.
The Southern Entertainment Awards & Conference is an event that continues to show its appreciation and respect in regards to the power of the Southern music and entertainment culture. So, to those of you who have never made it out to the event, we strongly suggest you adjust your schedule and make that drive or flight to The Resorts Casino in Tunica, MS March 28th – 30th, 2014.
